Los Angeles!

I'm in LA visiting Marc and Kristin for the weekend between conferences. Dad is also here to visit a horse racing track. I had lunch with Marc and some of his friends Friday and visited Griffith park in Burbank. The park had great views (including the Hollywood sign) and I saw a little of the observatory.

Conference in Sarasota, FL

Last week I was at a conference in Sarasota on Harmful Algae, which cause red tides leading to fish kills and beach closures. It was nice weather and the water was pretty. I got a few runs in, too. I did a five minute talk and an associated poster and I think they went well.

Highest point in Texas

Kyle and I went on a camping and hiking trip with Dave and Kristina to Guadalupe mountains national park. We drove over the day the government reopened, so that was good timing! We were afraid we wouldn't make it. Thus, we dubbed our trip the Government Reboot tour.

We also saw Depeche Mode (briefly) and then Muse. Fun and muse were the best! It rained some but was manageable, but unfortunately
Sunday was cancelled due to flooding and power outages.

Kyle and I had three day passes for the Austin City Limits music festival. We spent half a day there Friday and got to see fun. and Vampire Weekend.

I got here first I think so I have had some time. I worked until my laptop battery was about to die, then went for a run on the beautiful grounds. I went off the map on accident, but it was beautiful nonetheless. Pretty hot too! It was about 90. Here are some pics from the run. I stopped and visited the garden. And it is actually fall here!

I'm at a conference in Warrenton, VA for career mentoring for women in physical oceanography, part of an NSF program to address the fact that there are few female professors in the area. I flew into Dulles this morning and was driven in a fancy black Cadillac SUV here! I'm now doing some work before I go for a run and then get settled into my room whole others come in.

We played a round of power grid before Kelsey and joe headed out this morning, though we screwed up some of the rules. Still fun!

Kelsey and joe were briefly in town for work and we got to have dinner with them Thursday, so of course we went to the salt lick!

Kyle and I are seeing the Book of Mormon musical tonight! We had a bite to eat at the venue beforehand, too.

I put together my new standing desk at work today! Took awhile, but I like it a lot.

Eva and Leslie got married at Mills Mansion in Saturday, which was beautiful, and then had a reception at Eva's parents house. Everything was beautiful and it was great to catch up with some old college friends.
