UT football game

Kyle and I are at a UT football game! I think a Texas A&M game would be better since they are more crazy, but this was convenient. So, we got an Austin Mexican Martini and then headed to the game. We seem to be sitting with the lazy students who aren't standing.

George W. Bush Library

Couple more photos of our trip to the library, one with the Presidents Bush:

and the other of a fascinating parking designation that no one was using:

We could have parked in these spots (next to the handicap parking spaces) with our Prius C but

1. We did not know about them until we had already parked and
2. I was worried our car would get keyed.

Cranfills Gap

Kyle and I drove through cranfills gap after the dinosaur park. Elroy and his parents spent a year in the town when he was growing up, and many of his relatives are buried there. It is a very Norwegian area. Unfortunately, we went to the wrong Lutheran church (also St Olaf) first, and found and looked at the wrong cemetery. We eventually looked more carefully and found the actual St Olaf kirke outside of town. It was a nice plot of land and church and good size cemetery. There were a few other cars visiting, too. We were able to find a number of Elroy's family's names on the stones.

Dinosaur Valley State Park

On our drive back to Austin, Kyle and I stopped by the Dinosaur Valley Park, where we saw actual dinosaur footprints, which is really cool. The only downside is that it was really hot so it was unpleasant to investigate.

Whataburger

I tried a cheeseburger from Whataburger today. It was decent, nothing amazing. The veggies were pretty good.

Fav painting

This was my favorite at the kimbell so I bought a print of it.

More Ft Worth

Kyle and I drove through Grand Prairie so we could see Vi's old house. Looks like it is doing well.

We went to the kimbell art museum in Ft Worth which I highly recommend. It was free for the permanent exhibit and I think only 6 rooms, but each painting was pretty awesome, and I could read just about every sign and enjoys self without having to be there all day. Lots of great paintings! Afterward, we went to lunch at Joe T Garcia's, a HUGE mexican restaurant due to its enormous outdoor patio. We split one beef fajita dish and it was tasty and plenty of food.

Drink and dinner

We got drinks at the Havana smoking club or something and I got a tasty mojito! We went to dinner at a gastropub called Meddlesome Moth and it was very tasty and fun but I got a bunch of bug bites on the patio.

Perot science and history museum

We spent some of the afternoon at another museum. It was a neat way to present info but was rather kid oriented so not the best for us. A number of things they showed were in the rainbow color map called jet which we don't like. It was beat that they had movies of professors from all sorts of disciplines from mostly Texas universities talking about their science and careers.

In-n-Out

Kyle is a big fan of In and out so we had lunch there today!

George W Bush library

We went to bush's library to kick off out presidential tour. We will have to see Bush Sr's library in college station and Johnson's in Austin soon.

The library was nicely put together and had very friendly staff. The 9-11 section was very moving. But, it glossed over a lot of important issues that might have made him look bad instead of being more historical. That last picture shows the extent of the info about the financial crisis and Katrina.

Water garden

There is a cool water garden in Ft Worth we saw after dinner. It was really neat, with three pools: quiet, aerating, and active.

Dinner in Ft Worth

We went to Fireside Pies for dinner at Kyle's old officemate Casey's recommendation and it was very good. We then had an ice cream sandwich of blue bell ice cream between cookies at Sweet Sammie's. It was a fun evening!

Just coming into Dallas

Seems appropriate that there is a Bud truck...

Cracker Barrel

Kyle and I are headed to the Dallas area for the weekend to celebrate our anniversary and explore a new area! On the way, we stopped at a Cracker Barrel for lunch, which is a chain restaurant that I've never been to. I got the recommended chicken and dumplings, along with fried apples, fried okra, and turnip greens, and now I have a stomachache! Kyle's catfish was pretty good, anyway.

Spray Park Hike

It's been a little bit, but Kyle and I got to do a hike at Spray Park with Bernard. It was a beautiful day, and right afterward (after a shower...) we flew back to Texas.

Skillet Cornbread

We shared a skillet cornbread appetizer at NxNW today. It had goat
cheese and mushrooms in a chicken broth. Interesting combination and
very tasty!

Hike from Lake Lillian to Alta Peak

I had a chance to squeeze in a couple of hikes while in Seattle for work in July. One was from Lake Lillian over a ridge to the Rampart Lakes and up to Alta Peak, just off I-90. It was a beautiful day!

Friends Visit Austin

Some friends visited Kyle and me in Austin to hang out, use some travel funds that needed spending, and work on a collaboration with Kyle. It was great to get to spend time with them!

Pictures from Frio River!

Frio River

Leakey, TX

Kyle and I picked up a super tacky cozy in Leakey, TX, while we were on our weekend away. I've been looking for one for awhile, and this one fit the bill.

Kyle, TX

We drove through the city of Kyle today!

Sonic Accomplished

I have been slacking on fulfilling my desire to try a bunch of the fast food now available to me now that I live in Texas, but today I made it to Sonic. I got a jr deluxe burger and a lemonberry real fruit slushy.

Rest of the frio river festival

We had dinner at our cabin Saturday night and it unexpectedly poured, which is always good in Texas since there is a semi permanent drought situation. Then the music that night was a band with the songwriters coming through performing, so it was very different than Friday but also quite fun! Dave and Kristina had a friend performing, so we got to meet and chat with him and also spent some time in the river in the afternoon with the artists. A famous singer was there too!
